[ad_1]
Featured

It’s the Halloween edition of Health in 2 Point 00 where we round up a bunch of smaller deals plus Medidata buying MC10. The smaller ones include Navina, Nice Healthcare and Vitable (who appear to be the same thing in telehealth), Coa (mental health group classes), and Quit Genius (smoking cessation) which somehow has the tennis playing William sisters on board. But the main question of today is whether Jess DaMassa is wearing a mermaid tail below that wig!Matthew Holt

Noah Centineo and Stassie Karanikolaou Reportedly Kiss at a Private Halloween Party

[ad_1]

Noah Centineo, the male lead of every Netflix original movie about high school crushes, appears to have a crush of his own these days. Per E! News, he was out at a private Halloween party with Stassie Karanikolaou, also known as Anastasia Karanikolaou, one of Kylie Jenner's best friends.

A source told E! that the two were seen making out at a West Hollywood bash with Jenner, where the friends dressed up as Power Rangers (Centineo was not a ranger). "rangers unite," Karanikolaou wrote on her post.

This content is imported from Instagram. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

The source said Centineo and Karanikolaou left the party together around 2 A.M., though neither has said anything about the rumored relationship on social media. But they haven't exactly been keeping whatever this is under wraps. Last weekend, Karanikolaou and Jenner reportedly went to see Centineo's "Fuck This I'm Voting" pop-up exhibit in Los Angeles.

"Stassie definitely enjoyed the experience and was very happy to be there to support!," a source told E!

In the past, Centenio dated actress Angeline Appel for two years and, after that, model Alexis Ren, from whom he split in April. Despite what fans might want, he and his To All the Boys I've Loved Before co-star Lana Condor made a pact early into the project to not date.

"I did [set early boundaries with Noah,]" Condor told Jimmy Fallon in January 2019. "We had just come back from a hot yoga class and went to his apartment, and we ordered pizza, and it’s kind of like, ooh, hot yoga, pizza, what's happening? It was right before we shot the movie, just getting to know each other. And I felt something. And then so we went like this, and I looked at him and I went, 'Noah, it's not going to happen between us.' Yeah, because I felt, for the show to do well, we had to be best-friend professionals. And so I was like, 'it's just not going to happen.' And he was like, 'Yeah, it's not going to happen.' And I was like, 'Great!' So we kind of did what we did in To All the Boys the movie, we kind of made a contract and set boundaries and then I'm so happy that we did that because the movie turned out great and now we're doing a sequel. So I have to work with him again so imagine!"

Uma Thurman finds love again

[ad_1]

Uma Thurman found a new boyfriend after caring for his dog.

Uma Thurman

Uma Thurman

The 50-year-old actress is dating architect Peter Sabbeth, who she met by chance on the beach in Sag Harbor in the Hamptons this summer when he asked her if she would mind watching his pooch while he took a swim.

A source told the New York Post newspaper's Page Six column: "Peter had no idea who Uma was at the time. She was walking on the beach, known locally as Long Beach, near him, so he asked her to watch his dog while he took a swim

“Uma said OK, watched his dog while he swam, and now, a few months later, they are madly in love and looking to buy a home together in the Hamptons.”

The 50-year-old actress has spent several months quarantining in the Hamptons with her children, Maya, 22, and 18-year-old Levon - who she has with ex-husband Ethan Hawke, as well as Luna, eight, her daughter with former partner Arpad Busson.

And 'Stranger Things' star Maya previously complained the coronavirus crisis has forced her to put her life on hold and turned her back into "a kid" again.

She said: "I feel like the last three years of my life have been a dream and I'm just a kid again with my family. I moved out and got my whole life together and became a person. And this disease is like, 'Ha ha ha, just kidding! You're a kid, and you live with your parents.' It's constant anxiety and constant nothingness."

And Maya says she is grieving for her old life.

She explained: "I'm in mourning for my life. That's a joke. I'm fine. I'm very fortunate. But totally depressed and confused.

"I'm going through the five stages of grief with it. I was angry about it. I was in denial. And then I was bargaining: I'm going to fix it! And now I'm in resignation or whatever. I'm just sort of like, this is my new forever."

The CIA’s Secret Documents about Soviet Black Magic Assassins

[ad_1]

Twitter put the spotlight on 1970s psi research a couple of weeks ago when they featured a thread from researcher and journalist Emma Best regarding the CIA’s thoughts on Soviet research into black magic, and ‘psychotronic’ machines.

Best, whose research into secretive organisations via the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) “is so extensive that the FBI considers me among the “vexsome” FOIA users and appears to have considered investigating me over it”), featured a few snippets from CIA documents recently released to them that discussed the topic of Soviet parapsychological/occult research.

One snippet from a 1977 CIA report “Soviet and East European Parapsychology” (which I think was actually first released a decade ago) described Soviet experiments into ‘black magic’:

About 1969 the Soviets reportedly established an official group in their covert program devoted to collecting information on black magic. This group, headed by D.G. Mirza, was given its own secret laboratory in Moscow and was assigned the tasks of identifying, locating and evaluating the capabilities of sorcerers, witches, and the incantations used by such individuals. It is unlikely that this avenue of investigation has produced any applied paranormal systems, but the data collected may have benefited other areas of research and may have improved their techniques for training subjects to acquire or to improve paranormal abilities. Thus, the research may still be included in the Soviet program.

While casual Twitter readers were shocked to see both the topic of Soviet ‘black magic’ research, and the CIA report casually mentioning ‘paranormal abilities’, many Grailers are no doubt well aware that during the 1970s in particular there was somewhat of a psychic ‘arms race’ between the two superpowers.

Jim Schnabel’s 1997 book Remote Viewers: The Secret History of America’s Psychic Spies perhaps provides a little insight into the type of things the CIA report is referring to:

According to émigrés and intelligence reports, the KGB and GRU (military intelligence) had scoured the mystical eastern vastnesses of the Soviet Union in order to find the toughest Siberian shamans, the best-trained Tibetan priests, the most powerful Mongolian chi gong masters. At Special Department No. 8 in Siberia, according to August Stern, shamans tried to use their PK powers to make people fall off streetcars, or to kill small animals. An émigré parapsychologist named Larissa Vilenskaya claimed that at I.M. Kogan’s lab she was once shown a film of a PK master listening to a foreign politician on the radio, and trying to send detrimental psi particles his way.

At IPPI [the ‘Institute for Problems of Information Transmission’] one day, it was said, a group of Tibetans succeeded in breaking a human skull a few yards away, just by concentrating on it. Also at IPPI, and at a laboratory in Kazakhstan, shamans took madryushka dolls, hand-carved wooden spoons, souvenir models of Sputnik – the usual beriozka store trinkets – and zapped them with evil psi energies. The gifts now supposedly emitted debilitating rays, almost as if they had been impregnated with some kind of radioactive material; they were given to hapless foreign visitors, who would thereafter, it was believed, suffer neuralgia, depression, even nervous breakdowns. It was black magic, pure and simple, cloaked in the gray vernacular of psi particles and psi radiation and transmission and reception.

Schnabel goes on to list apocryphal stories about shamans being able to stop the hearts of small animals and sometimes humans – which gave rise to the American research that would be mocked in The Men Who Stare at Goats.

But Schnabel’s mention of ‘psi particles’ and ‘psi radiation’ is linked to another of the Soviet psi research snippets posted by Best, which mentions that “a significant amount of study was devoted to the development of psychotronic generators used to duplicate psychic effects”. As Schnabel notes in Remote Viewers:

By the mid-1970s the CIA and DIA had begun to receive various reports of ‘psychotronic generators’ being designed and built along these lines. There was one device that supposedly could cause strokes or heart attacks. Another gave people a sensation of anxiety, or of a disorienting blow to the head. Another made them aggressive, or drove them mad. Some reports credited a Russian scientist named Viktor Inyushin with the development of this technology. Others cited a Czech engineer named Robert Pavlita. An émigré named Nikolai Khokhlov, apparently a former KGB officer, claimed that his erstwhile employers had ‘tested’ such generators against certain selected communities in North America.

Schnabel does note, however, that many in the U.S. intelligence community “simply regarded these stories as evidence that the Russian psi program was spiraling off into insanity”, and that they thought the greatest threat to America might be that at some point the Soviets might stop wasting money on their psi programs.

Rising Kashmir

[ad_1]

A day long workshop on Youth Engagement and Outreach in Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir organized by J&K government was today inaugurated by Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha at SKICC here.
The Workshop was attended by top Industry Heads from Ashok Leyland, ICICI foundation, Bombay Stock Exchange, Universities, IIMs/IITs and Policy Analysts from across the country.
The outreach programme is aimed to create opportunities and infrastructure for engaging youth, addressing their issues and concerns and empower them in entrepreneurship, self-employability and create livelihood for the youth in a well curated and holistic manner.
Addressing the gathering of Policy Analysts and Corporate heads of different organisations during the inaugural session of the event, the Lt Governor said that the idea behind this Youth Engagement and Outreach workshop is to create institutional mechanisms to empower and groom our youngsters and to make them valuable for J&K as well as the country.
He remarked that in the past many initiatives were taken to engage the youth here but all of them somehow fell short of meeting all the requirements so there is a need to have an umbrella programme that dovetails all the resources meant for this purpose to achieve the goal of youth empowerment and youth development.
“I believe in concrete plans and immediate execution. My idea of Institutional Mechanism under Mission Youth is to ensure that we have a concrete framework and a definite time-line to execute it on the fertile ground that we have prepared”, he added.
On the occasion, he also announced that a seed fund of Rs 200 crores has been earmarked for creating initial infrastructure and institutional support for meeting the initial needs of this programme. This amount, he said, would be used to create a 'Centre of Excellence' and infrastructure in districts to realize our goals of making youth the leaders of success.
The Lt Governor also beckoned the industrial leaders to partner J&K in formulating and implementing the programme successfully on ground as he assumed that best designs are not what looks good on paper but what works best when implemented on ground.
He sought support of the national-level investors and industry experts in creating robust infrastructure and employment avenues for the youth of the UT. We not only need your investments but your expertise as well, which will help us realize the dreams of prosperity, he added.
“It is my aim to truly create a stable policy and regulatory ecosystem to business so that they can build for scale and create a thriving startup ecosystem which is inherently entrepreneurial in approach, creating local jobs and employment”, the Lt Governor maintained.
In the domestic Ease of Doing Business ranking and State Reform Action Plan, we are moving up. By minimizing regulatory burdens, J&K have scored over states like Kerala and Odisha in September’s ranking by the central government, said the Lt Governor.
Highlighting UT Government’s efforts in promoting entrepreneurship; the Lt Governor said that within one month, two aspiring entrepreneurs from each 4290 panchayats of J&K were selected for handholding and about 10 thousand people have been provided loans through the J&K Bank to establish their businesses.
We believe in Uniqueness of Youth Energy and providing Equal Opportunities for them to build a Modern, Equitable & Sustainable Society & the Nation. To bring changes to a society, the youth needs to be transformed at first. And this transformation needs to be thoughtful, he observed.
He also stressed upon the need to create a major platform to cater to our talent pool and resources to our industrial, skill and modern technological gaps.
Almost 65 percent of Jammu Kashmir population is under the age of 35 years. So, on one hand we have a demographic dividend like the rest of the country, but on the other we have faced many challenges; systemic unemployment and joblessness along with the absence of holistic development of the youth, the Lt Governor maintained.
The Youth of J&K will be benefited from the programme through creation of opportunities in the field of Sports, Livelihood generation, Recreation, Education, Counselling to effectively support and encourage young individuals to shape their future as per their aspirations, he added.
“Kashmir offers abundant raw material for Agro & Food Processing, strategic location which is truly blessed by nature in its abundance, home to handloom and handicraft, responsive governance, minimum government, timely policy reforms & rapid single window clearances and industrial infrastructure”.
It also has Strategic advantages which includes-an area Spread over 2 lakh square kilometres with the country’s major tourist and spiritual destinations, including Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, Gulmarg, Patni Top, Shri Amarnathji Shrine; three perennial rivers Chenab, Jhelum and Ravi; leading producer of- Apple, Walnut, Almond, Saffron; Major producer of - Wool, Figs, Berries, over 57 industrial estates; International airports, 65% of the population in the age group between 15-59 years; over 7 lakh MSME units, over 10.25% of India's total Hydel Power production; Major handloom and handicraft industry with total exports of over 5000 crore over the last 5 years.
We have so much to offer and there is a lot that I expect this group to contribute for accelerated economic growth, the Lt Governor maintained.
The Lt Governor said that the UT Government is aiming to build a robust infrastructure for our youth in all 6 identified focus areas and to create more favourable factors to bridge the gap between alternate scenario and current growth rate in this Union Territory. We need both your investment and expertise to achieve this.
In comparison to the national average unemployment rate of 13.8%, J&K has a 25% rate, which is almost double the national rate. To fix the lag, we have before us Mission 2025 under which we have to bring opportunities to 80% of our J&K youth, he added.
The Lt Governor expressed the desire to conduct student knowledge and tech hackathons and to do a collective truly bottom up solutions approach consultation powered by the Corporate heads present there and with institutions of excellence like IIMs and IITs to create white papers and host multi-stakeholder roundtables for a positive agenda. I am also looking at each one of you to address both the shortages of intellectual and investment capital, said the Lt Governor.
You are all welcome to Jammu & Kashmir for an unprecedented revolution with public participation. The four sectors in which we are focussing our energies in J&K are Industry & Services, Technology & Innovation, Infrastructure, Agriculture & Allied Sector, he added.
The Lt Governor observed that valuable contribution and investment made today, will give dignity to the youth and it will restore their pride and will make Jammu and Kashmir truly a piece of art in the Country’s economy.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Secretary, BVR Subrahmanyam said that the Jammu and Kashmir Government is aiming to create a one-stop center where all the issues of youth are addressed, be it their education, their scholarships, their jobs, their skills or their entrepreneurship or self-employment.
He urged that ways and means should be searched for providing the sustained support to youth as the piecemeal approach has not done any good in the past. Our youth has struggled due to many reasons as lack of avenues regarding job prospects, skill up gradation, recreation abetted by poor educational standards, skill sets are taking toll on them. The main objective behind creating this platform is the overall development and progress of youth, he added
During his welcome address, Financial Commissioner, Finance Department, Arun Kumar Mehta, said that this is an opportune time to think about youth and create an environment for them where they can showcase their talent and make strides in every field of their choice, be it academics, administration and entrepreneurship.
He laid stress on the fact that the entire country is the platform to rear and chisel the talent of J&K youth and recommendations taken from today’s workshop would be guiding principles towards formulation of future policy regarding development of our youth.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, CEO, Mission Youth gave a detailed presentation on the programme and highlighted that the intent of the programme is to effectively facilitate young people to shape their future as per their aspirations and wishes.
The Jammu and Kashmir Government is aiming to launch massive Youth Engagement and outreach programmes which would address the issues of the young population. The idea of Institutional Mechanism under Mission Youth is to ensure that we have a concrete framework and a definite time-line to execute the idea of youth empowerment and engagement plans. Youth Centres will be established in each district which will be the nerve centers of all the activities to be taken through this program, he added.
Dr. Abid said that the UT Government has conceived the creation of a parallel, professional organization within the government -The 'Youth Empowerment Society' which will work in the domains of Livelihood Generation, Education & Skill Development, Counselling (Psycho-social & Career), Sports & Recreation, Financial Assistance and effectively support, encourage young individuals in fulfilling their potential and aspirations while addressing their needs and concerns.
During the workshop, Ashok Leyland proposed establishment of rural schools where school dropouts could be admitted to learn skills and trained to deliver in trades which are their areas of interest.
Other Industrialists and Bureaucrats also proposed several suggestions to include in the model formulated by J&K Government regarding Mission Youth.
The day-long workshop was divided into different technical sessions during which speakers from the corporate world and J&K Administration deliberated on different issues pertaining to the engagement and empowerment of youth of J&K.

Mammoth Lands 2 Major Partnerships to Use CRISPR to Solve COVID19 Testing Shortage, At Scale –

[ad_1]
Mammoth Lands 2 Partnerships to Use CRISPR to Solve COVID19 Testing Shortage

What You Should Know:

– Mammoth Biosciences signs agreements with MilliporeSigma and Hamilton company targeting commercialization of high-throughput CRISPR-based SARS CoV-2 Test.

– These partnerships will help Mammoth bring a turnkey CRISPR-based sample-to-answer solution for commercial laboratories to enable a multi-fold increase in a testing capacity.

Mammoth Biosciences, Inc., announced that it has signed agreements with MilliporeSigma and Hamilton Company targeting commercialization of a high-throughput CRISPR-based SARS CoV-2 test. The test leverages Mammoth’s DETECTR BOOST™ platform and will provide a sample-to-answer turnkey solution for commercial laboratories to enable a multi-fold increase in testing capacity.

As laboratories nationwide face limited capacity and testing supply shortages amid the pandemic, Mammoth Biosciences is poised to help reduce the backlog by working with leading manufacturing and automation vendors for its CRISPR-based SARS-CoV-2 molecular assay. The high-throughput systems will be compatible with both nasal swab and saliva samples and are targeting 1500 tests per 8-hour shift with minimal user interaction. Mammoth Biosciences plans to submit the assay for FDA Emergency Use Authorization later this year.

“In order to begin reopening more aspects of society, we’ll need a robust testing infrastructure that can rapidly scale up capacity as needed,” said Trevor Martin, Ph.D., co-founder and CEO of Mammoth Biosciences. “By combining CRISPR-based diagnostics with the proven manufacturing and product leadership of MilliporeSigma and Hamilton Company, we’re confident this solution will be a game-changer for labs.”

Mammoth’s DETECTR BOOST™ SARS-CoV-2 assay reagent kits, which will be contract manufactured by MilliporeSigma, rival PCR in sensitivity while being less prone to supply chain risk. The testing system will also leverage standard, automated liquid handling equipment such as those from Hamilton Company to enable rapid processing of patient samples. By implementing this unique offering, CLIA laboratories will be able to significantly improve their capacity to regularly test communities and businesses in need.

“This collaboration will allow us to help Mammoth with the development and production of their new SARS-CoV-2 test, which, once approved by the FDA, will increase testing capacity here in the U.S. at the scale needed to combat this pandemic,” said Jean-Charles Wirth, head of Applied Solutions at MilliporeSigma. “MilliporeSigma is helping to advance the future of testing at scale. This is an important step in detecting Covid-19 quickly.”

Philippines orders evacuations ahead of strongest typhoon

[ad_1]

Manila, Oct 31 | The Philippines on Saturday ordered evacuation of coastal villages as it prepares for the onslaught of typhoon Goni, the strongest tropical cyclone to hit the archipelago this year.

Goni, with maximum winds of 215 km per hour and gusts of up to 265 km per hour, moved closer to the eastern coast of the main island of Luzon on Saturday at 20 km per hour from the Pacific Ocean, reports Xinhua news agency.

PAGASA, the country’s weather bureau, forecasted that Goni would make landfall in Quezon province, southeast of Manila, on Sunday.

“There remains a possibility that this typhoon will reach Super Typhoon category over the next 12 hours,” the bureau said in its latest severe weather bulletin, warning of potential flooding and landslide in its path.

The bureau alerted the residents of many regions in the Philippines’ main island of Luzon, including the capital Manila, to prepare, warning that Goni “will bring heavy to intense rains”, destructive winds and a storm surge of up to 3 metres.

It warned the surge may “result in life-threatening and damaging coastal inundation,” adding “This storm surge may be accompanied by swells and breaking waves reaching the coast.”

The Philippine Coast Guard said no vessels are allowed to sail, stranding passengers and goods in ports in the Bicol region and Eastern Visayas province, which are in the path of the typhoon.

Police forces were deployed in areas in Typhoon Goni’s path to help local government units in the evacuations, Philippine National Police chief General Camilo Cascolan said.

Meanwhile, the state weather bureau said it is also tracking Tropical Depression Atsani churning in the Pacific Ocean 1,655 km east of southern Luzon.

Goni is the 18th tropical cyclone to hit the Philippines this year. The previous topical storms left a trail of destruction in the archipelago.

Earlier this week, typhoon Molave, which tore through villages in Luzon and the central Philippines, left 22 dead and displaced thousands.

Typhoons and tropical storms regularly hit the Philippines from June through year’s end.

Typhoon Haiyan, one of the country’s worst, killed over 7,000 people in November 2013.

The People Who Love Trump’s Coronavirus Response

[ad_1]

Many white men, in particular, feel “shoved back in line,” she writes. Unable to draw confidence from their wealth, which is in many cases nonexistent, or their jobs, which are steadily being moved offshore, they turn to their pride in being American. “Anyone who criticizes America—well, they’re criticizing you,” she writes.

Trump, meanwhile, has allowed his male supporters “to feel like a good moral American and to feel superior to those they considered ‘other’ or beneath them,” she writes. Trump might not always represent his supporters’ economic self-interest, but he feeds their emotional self-interest. Trump is, in essence, “the identity politics candidate for white men.”

For a new book, Hochschild is talking with people in eastern Kentucky, another heavily conservative area. One trend she’s noticed is local white men’s lost sense of pride, and how they turn to Trump to restore it. To them, Trump seems to say, “I’m taking the government back and having it serve you,” she told me. “I’m your rescuer.”

In Strangers, some of the Louisianans Hochschild interviewed were upset that women were competing for men’s jobs and that the federal government “wasn’t on the side of men being manly.” Some of her male Kentucky interviewees, especially those who have a family history in coal, feel even more strongly that men’s rightful place in the world is slipping away.

Men in this community, she told me, “are starved for a sense of heroism. They don’t feel good about themselves. They feel like they haven’t done as well as their fathers, that they’re on a downward slope.” Coal jobs have evaporated, and liberals, they feel, are making enemies of white men. “Their source of heroism, of status, is humming; it’s fragile,” Hochschild says. This analysis comports with some polls of Trump voters. An Atlantic/PRRI poll conducted in 2016 found that Trump supporters were more likely than Hillary Clinton supporters to feel that society “punishes men just for acting like men.”

As far as their leader’s pandemic response, Hochschild’s Kentuckians feel that Trump is doing the best he can, and as good of a job as possible under the circumstances. Though her subjects are worried about catching COVID-19, many see it as one of the unfortunate but acceptable risks of life. Confronting the coronavirus is a way to show stoicism and to feel heroic again. “I’ve heard it said that ‘This is hitting older people, and I’m an older person, but it’s really important to get back to work, and I’ll take the hit,’” Hochschild said. Her subjects think they can handle the virus just like Trump handles everything. “He’s a two-hamburger-a-meal guy,” she said. “He’s kind of a bad boy, and they relate to that.”

This part of Trump resonated with Kurtis, who told me he likes that the president “comes off as a man. He doesn’t come off as weak.” Trump’s strength is a benefit in the foreign-policy arena, Kurtis feels.

Kim Kardashian’s 2020 Halloween Costumes: Carole Baskin and More

[ad_1]

Another year, another one of Kim Kardashian‘s Halloween costumes taking the internet by storm. This time, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star dressed up as Carole Baskin from Netflix’s Tiger King with BFF Jonathan Cheban as Joe Exotic and her four precious kiddos as tigers.

Of course, this is hardly the first time Kim has gone all out for the spookiest day of the year. In fact, out of every member of her famous family, the KKW Beauty mogul, 40, definitely takes Halloween the most seriously.

For example, in 2019, Kim went as far as photoshopping her youngest daughter, Chicago, into a Halloween portrait featuring husband Kanye West and kids North, Saint and Psalm dressed as characters from The Flintstones.

“This family pic was such a challenge because Chicago was so scared of Dino! LOL,” the Skims founder captioned the final result on Instagram. “We tried to explain and show her that it was just daddy, but she didn’t get the concept yet! So, shout-out to the photographer for editing her in and making our family Flintstones dreams come true!”

When Kim is done making sure her children have a magical Halloween, it’s showtime! Over the years, the longtime E! personality has stepped out as Pamela Anderson, Cher, Marilyn Monroe, Wonder Woman, a skeleton and so much more. In 2019, the aspiring lawyer dressed as Elle Woods — as played by Reese Witherspoon — from the Legally Blonde movie franchise.

However, Kim has received backlash in the past for some of her costume choices, with many fans accusing her of cultural appropriation. In 2017, the California native was slammed for her Aaliyah get-up inspired by the late singer’s 2000 “Try Again” video.

“I saw online that some people thought my costume was in poor taste and I am truly sorry if that offended anyone, but I wasn’t dressing up as a race or culture but rather as a woman whom I admire,” Kim tweeted at the time in response to the criticism. “We don’t see color in my home. It’s all love and respect.” Ultimately, her apology further upset fans.

Netflix Currently Have 10 New Video Game Adaptations In The Works

[ad_1]

The best-selling video games easily rake in more money from sales than the biggest blockbuster movies do at the box office, which is why the industry is so determined to make console-to-screen adaptations a viable enterprise, despite so many of them suffering from dismal critical and commercial performances over the last quarter of a century.

There’s been a definite upturn in quality over the last few years, though, with smash hits Detective Pikachu and Sonic the Hedgehog becoming the first two adaptations to score a Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while The Witcher ascended to pop culture phenomenon status and instantly established itself as one of Netflix‘s marquee TV shows after dominating both the conversation and the most-watched list for weeks on end.

The streaming service are now going all in on tackling high profile video game properties, and there are no less than ten projects in the works that cover film, television, live-action and animation. That’s not even counting the second season of The Witcher, although it does include prequel series Blood Origin, and you can check out the full list below.

  • The Witcher: Blood Origin – Live-action TV series
  • Resident Evil – Live-action TV series
  • Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness – Animated TV series
  • Assassin’s Creed – Live-action TV series
  • Cyberpunk: Edgerunners – Animated TV series
  • Splinter Cell – Animated TV series
  • The Division – Live-action movie
  • Devil May Cry – Animated TV series
  • Final Fantasy – Live-action TV series
  • The Cuphead Show! – Animated TV series

When you also factor in the animated Castlevania that was recently renewed for a fourth season and the Dragon’s Dogma anime that debuted last month, Netflix have quietly amassed a solid lineup of video game adaptations with some major talent involved. The genre is coming ever closer to escaping a somewhat unfair reputation of being cursed, and over the next few years subscribers will have plenty of options to choose from in regards to original content based on console favorites. But the key is always to make sure that non-fans become just as invested, too.

National Unity Day | The Arunachal Times

[ad_1]

APP takes pledge to uphold unity of nation

BANDERDEWA, Oct 31: The Arunachal Pradesh Police (APP) took a pledge to serve for the unity of the nation during the National Unity Day (Rashtriya Ekta Divas) programme held at the police training centre (PTC) here on Saturday.

DGP RP Upadhyaya administered the pledge of unity to all the participants here, including contingents consisting of a platoon of the ITBP, a platoon of the CRPF and 461 recruit constables.

APP personnel also presented a parade on the occasion.

The pledge was administered in all other districts of the state, including at the ICR SP’s office and the CO battalions, while events like ‘run for unity’ were organized in Ziro in Lower Subansiri and Raga in Kamle district. Shramdaan was organized

at most of the district and battalion headquarters.

The National Unity Day is observed on 31 October every since 2014 to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhai Patel.

The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) also remembered former deputy prime minister Sardar Patel and former prime minister Indira Gandhi at Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan here on Saturday.

INC leaders and workers paid floral tributes to both the departed leaders and spoke of the work done by them for the wellbeing and development of the nation.

The day was also observed as ‘Kisan Adhikar Divas’ by the Congress.

Speaking on the three farmers’ bills passed by the parliament, former minister and APCC vice president Bosiram Siram said that “we feel that the demands of the farming community were not properly understood and considered, and the bills would be injustice toward the farmers.”

“Sardar Patel had always fought for the rights of the farming community and we too support their (farmers’) genuine demands. The Centre should also understand that the farming community is the backbone of the country,” he said.

Later, Siram spoke on the life and works of Sardar Patel and Indira Gandhi.

After major stroke, cyclist grateful to be back on the bike

[ad_1]

As an avid cyclist of more than 50 years, Jim Crawford enjoys several long bike rides every week, totaling about 150 miles. But after a near-fatal stroke, he is grateful to be alive, much less back on the bicycle.

One day in January, Jim went for his usual ride. After he finished, he entered the house to sit and rest. He doesn’t remember feeling anything out of the ordinary, but his speech suddenly started to become garbled and he fell out of his armchair onto the floor.

To Anne, a retired cath lab technician, it was clear that her husband was having a stroke. She recognized the common stroke signs.

“He turns around to tell me something, and the minute he turned around to tell me, it came out gargled and he was drooling out the side of his mouth,” she said. “I immediately knew he was having a stroke.”

Anne acted quickly by calling 911. When the EMTs arrived, they indicated that they were headed to a nearby small community hospital. Knowing that proper care after a stroke is critical, Anne argued that Jim needed to go to a more experienced stroke center. She requested that he be taken to Baylor University Medical Center, a Level 1 Comprehensive Stroke Center.

Jim doesn’t remember all the details of that day, but he knows his wife’s actions are in large part why he is alive today to tell his story.

“Anne saved my life,” he said. “I mean, that’s probably as close to death as I can ever recall anybody telling me I was.”

Once they arrived at the emergency department, Jim was treated with tPA, the gold standard “clot-busting” stroke treatment, and quickly moved to interventional radiology for a thrombectomy. A thrombectomy is a surgical procedure to remove clots from within arteries and veins so blood can flow freely.

According to Joshua Thatcher, MD, interventional neuroradiologist, Jim suffered a “major stroke.” With almost no blood going to the left side of his brain, it wasn’t clear whether Jim would be able to recover.

Fortunately, thanks to Anne’s quick thinking and his skilled care team, Jim was able to walk out of the hospital just three days after arriving. Today, he has made a full recovery. In fact, when he visited a neurologist for clearance to resume driving, the physician could see no sign of stroke.

Even more important to Jim, he was able to pass the mental acuity and balance exams — clearing him to return to his beloved cycling.

He’s back to riding about 30 miles a day, and enjoying it more than ever. At 76, he doesn’t plan to slow down anytime soon.

He also said this near-death experience has profoundly changed his outlook on life.

“I want to live each day as it could be my last,” he said. “And take care of my body so it will last another 30 years.”

Anne’s quick thinking saved her husband’s life. What about you — would you be able to recognize the signs of a stroke? Find out here.

Biden and Trump closing arguments diverge sharply on COVID-19

[ad_1]

President TrumpDonald John TrumpStephen Miller: Trump to further crackdown on illegal immigration if he wins US records 97,000 new COVID-19 cases, shattering daily record Biden leads Trump by 8 points nationally: poll MORE and Democratic nominee Joe BidenJoe BidenBiden leads Trump by 8 points nationally: poll Ivanka Trump raises million in a week for father's campaign On The Money: McConnell says Congress will take up stimulus package at start of 2021 | Lawmakers see better prospects for COVID deal after election MORE are digging in on their vastly different coronavirus messages in the waning days of a bruising campaign.

Even as COVID-19 cases rise to record levels across the nation, Trump repeatedly insists the country is “rounding the turn” on the pandemic.

He is pressing ahead with large-scale campaign rallies, showing no signs of backing off his plans to hold 14 major campaign gatherings in the three days leading up to the election.

Along the way, he is calling on states to lift public health restrictions in order to boost the economic recovery and raising unrealistic expectations about the development of an effective vaccine and therapeutics.

“If you get it, you’re going to get better,” Trump, who contracted the disease earlier this month, told a crowd of supporters in Waterford Township, Mich., on Friday. “Then you’re going to be immune, and it’s a whole thing, and it goes away.”

Biden, meanwhile, is laser focused on using the final days of the campaign to hammer Trump over his administration’s response to a virus that has killed more than 225,000 people in the U.S.

Seizing on comments made by White House chief of staff Mark MeadowsMark Randall MeadowsDemocrats call Trump's COVID-19 response 'among the worst failures of leadership in American history' Winter COVID-19 wave poses threat to nation's hospitals Critics blast 'two-faced liar' Miles Taylor after revelation as NYT 'anonymous' author MORE, Biden said Trump has decided to let the coronavirus win.

“Donald Trump has given up. The White House chief of staff said it out loud last week. He said we’re not going to control the pandemic,” Biden said at a car rally in Des Moines, Iowa, on Friday. “Donald Trump has waved the white flag. He surrendered to this virus.”

Biden has stepped up his in-person events in the final stretch, but his rallies are significantly scaled back in order to adhere to public health guidelines.

Instead of massive gatherings in airport hangers with tens of thousands of people, Biden has favored “drive-in” rallies, where people stay close to their cars as a way to minimize the threat of COVID-19 infection.

For weeks, the dissonance between the two candidates has been unmistakable on an issue that has defined the campaign and remains one of the top issues for many voters.

The majority of Americans disapprove of the way Trump has handled the public health crisis. Polls show that voters trust Biden to handle the coronavirus more than they do Trump, who is lagging behind the former vice president in national and most swing state polling.

Despite that, Trump has not adjusted his rhetoric, repeatedly minimizing the threat posed by the coronavirus, questioning the efficacy of masks and disagreeing publicly with the advice of top experts.

After his own COVID-19 diagnosis, Trump insisted that Americans should not let the virus “dominate” their lives.

As part of his treatment, the president received experimental drugs that are not yet available to the public, which he now calls “cures,” and he is pressuring federal scientists to speed up their authorization.

The message from Trump that the virus is no longer a threat was echoed by the White House science office this past week when it listed “ending the COVID-19 pandemic” as one of the president’s top accomplishments, sparking widespread criticism.

Trump has also been eager for businesses and schools to resume normal operations as he tries to make the case to voters that he is the best steward for an economy that was once consistently growing but is now in recession.

“I don’t think this was a president ever who was going to stake his case on reelection on his ability to manage an international health crisis. His was a story of law and order and economic growth,” said William Howell, a political scientist and professor at the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy.

“What he wants to do is change the subject, and the facts on the ground are not cooperating.”

Biden has emphasized that, unlike Trump, he will follow the advice of scientists. On Wednesday, he sat for a remote briefing with medical experts, including former Surgeon General Vivek MurthyVivek Hallegere MurthyBiden and Trump closing arguments diverge sharply on COVID-19 Hillicon Valley: Twitter tightens rules before election | Intelligence chief briefed lawmakers on foreign influence threats | Democrats launch inquiry into Pentagon's moves on a national 5G network Airbnb to require hosts to adhere to enhanced cleaning protocols or risk being booted off the platform MORE.

In a speech after his briefing, Biden acknowledged the challenges that lie ahead.

"Even if I win, it's going to take a lot of hard work to end this pandemic. I'm not running on the false promise of being to end this pandemic by flipping a switch," Biden said, adding he will "start on day one doing the right things."

"We'll let science drive our decisions," he continued.

Trump on Friday staged rallies in three battleground states —Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin — that have some of the worst COVID-19 infection rates in the country. Hospitals are at or near capacity in all three states.

The signature rallies are a cornerstone of Trump’s campaign, much like they were in 2016, and he often points to his crowd size as a measure of his popularity while mocking Biden over the low turnout for his events.

He has also accused Democratic governors of deliberately implementing stringent rules to stop him from campaigning in their states, targeting leaders in Pennsylvania and Minnesota this week.

"We're having a problem with some people in Minnesota because they have a cap," Trump said at the White House before leaving for Friday's rallies, citing a spat with local officials over the number of attendees who could attend a rally in Rochester.

"We have 25,000 people in Minnesota, and they say you can only have 250 people. So they thought I'd cancel. We're not going to cancel," Trump said.

While they draw large throngs of thousands of supporters, the rallies appear to be out of step with the sentiment of the majority of the American public.

A Suffolk University-USA Today poll released Thursday found that 60 percent of voters disapprove of Trump’s decision to hold large campaign rallies during the pandemic, while 35 percent approve. That disapproval included 15 percent of Republicans and 59 percent of independents.

Blois Olson, a political communications strategist in Minnesota who authors a daily political newsletter, said Trump’s decision to hold rallies without requiring masks or enforcing social distancing had turned off some independent-minded voters in the state.

Olson noted, for instance, that Trump appears to have lost ground with senior voters in a state he narrowly lost in 2016 and is now one of the few his campaign hopes to flip on Tuesday.

“It’s kind of the throwing caution to the wind that is giving people some pause,” Olson said.
