A recent investigation by the Los Angeles Times reported there have been no Black members in the HFPA since 1987, leading the advocacy group TimesUp to launch a #TIMESUPGlobes viral hashtag on Friday.
One of the biggest questions on the minds of pretty much everyone was whether or not the HFPA, the Golden Globes or its returning hosts, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, would address the controversy. Coming so shortly before the broadcast, it seemed inevitable, but would the HFPA allow their own public shaming to happen?
It turns out we didn't have to wait very long to find the answer to that question, as the pair addressed it almost instantly with a joke, and then later with a plea directly to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to fix this problem immediately.
The hosts worked it in to their explanation of just what the Golden Globes are, as it's always been the odd one out when it comes to major awards shows, awarded by "around 90 international no-Black journalists," as Fey put it.
But if anyone thought the HFPA was going to get off that easy, with a quick two-word dig, they were in for a surprise. And they had to wait for it.
Holding off until the end of their opening monologue, Amy Poehler actually stopped the momentum of their jokes to really draw attention to it.
"This is probably something we should have told you earlier," she said. "Everybody is understandably upset at the HFPA and their choices. Look, a lot of flash garbage got nominated, but that happens. That’s, like, their thing. But a number of Black actors and Black-led actors were overlooked."
"We all know that awards shows are stupid," Fey added, with Poehler joking that "they're all a scam invented by 'big red carpet.'"
But getting serious again, Fey closed the segment by saying pointedly that "even with stupid things, inclusivity is important. And there are no Black members of the Hollywood Foreign Press. I realize, HFPA, maybe you guys didn’t get the memo because your workplace is in the back booth of a French McDonalds, but you gotta change that. So here’s to changing it."
"Yes, and looking forward to that change."
The HFPA's diversity problem isn't the only problematic and controversial issue the women addressed on the night. The HFPA first got heads scratching with their announcements when Sia's problematic "Music" film was nominated.
Raked over the coals for its portrayal of autistic people, and for casting Maddie Ziegler (a non-autistic dancer) in the lead role -- and then again when the film came out and they saw her performance, it was a questionable film to honor, at best.
"‘Sia’s’ controversial film ‘Music’ is nominated for Best International Flopparooni!" said Fey during a rundown of some key nominees. "I don’t want to get into it guys, but it’s real problematic and Twitter is saying it’s the most offensive casting since Kate Hudson was the Weight Watchers spokesperson."
The ladies did the usual awards show burn of most of the nominated films, and even added a segment where they talked about how things would normally go in a non-Covid world where the theater was filled with stars, rather than first responders, as it was Sunday night.
"It’s usually like Meryl Streep just hammered, can’t even remember what movie she’s there for," joked Fey.
"Brad Pitt’s always waving at me like, ‘Amy, Amy.’ And I’m like, ‘Dude, I’m working. Not now.'" They had Oprah Winfrey writing her name on the tablecloth in pen and Quentin Tarantino crawling around under the table to touch feet.
The point of it was to emphasize just how unusual this year's broadcast was. The celebrities were safe in their homes, calling in via Zoom -- kudos to technology for screwing up the audio on the very first win of the night! -- and even Fey and Poehler were broadcasting from opposite coasts.
Using stellar split-screen technology from the 1950s and earlier, it was a ... seamless(?) illusion that they were standing side by side, riffing off of one another just the way it used to be.
"I’m Tina Fey, coming to you from the beautiful Rainbow Room in New York City where indoor dining and outdoor muggings are back!" trumpeted Fey triumphantly at the top of the broadcast.
"And I am Amy Poehler, here at the Beverly Hilton, District 7 New Angeles and this is the 78th Annual Hunger Games," countered Poehler.

From the 5th of March to the 3rd of April 2021 is the second month Xin Mao (Yin Metal Rabbit) of the Xin Chou year (Yin Metal Ox) with the ruling energy of #4 in the central grid.
Unfortunately, there are no good areas for candles during March as the combination of annual and monthly stars would cause conflict if candles were introduced during March.
North
Li 9 Purple (You Bi) Li 9 Purple is a fire star and a yin trigram and considered a star of future wealth and has an auspicious influence in Period 8. Career opportunities and promotions are probable especially if you have an office or main door in this area this month.
In March, we have the monthly #9 auspicious star fly into the north along with the annual #2 inauspicious star which will be destroying the metal that we are placing to control the inauspicious annual star this year. My advice would be to not activate the monthly #9 star in the north this month. Just having the auspicious star located here can bring a good influence but If we strengthened the fire element, this would weaken the metal influence which would make the annual star more likely to be activated. As long as noise levels are kept low, you can still use this area.
If you do not already have a Salt cure and 6 Chinese I-Ching coins in place for the year, please be sure to introduce these in March and leave them up until February 3rd 2022.
There is fame and acknowledgement, growth and improvement. It affects the eyes, mental disturbance, blood disorders and stomach and can cause problems at work. These problems only occur when you have poison arrows directed to this area this month. It also affects wealth career and luck and because it is timely in period 8 (2004 – 2024) it is considered an auspicious flying star.

Tui 7 Red (Po Jun) robbery star is a metal star and a yin trigram and known as the mischievous Po Jun #7 argumentative red star is a negative influence in Period 8. The trigram Tui is also known as ’Broken Soldier’. This is a fighting star that can cause problems if left alone, the #7 Red indicates a high risk of burglary, deception, copyright theft, gossip and backstabbing this month.
We have the monthly #7 star fly into the northeast this month which also has the annual #9 and Tai Sui located here and my advice would be to leave this area as it is as long as you have the annual cures in place. If you do not, I would recommend using fire colours and cures as this will balance between the monthly and annual stars. I would not recommend weakening the monthly star with water colours as this would destroy the good annual star. Please try to keep this area quiet in March. Please do not use candles here in March as this would destroy the metal influence and could cause a lot of issues.
This area is not good for writers, artist or children studying and especially so for the youngest daughter although cures can be placed to dissipate the negative influence this month so do not worry.
If you have a door that is used often in this area or even a window you should be looking to update security, smoke alarms and checking electrics. Please take this advice seriously as I have been doing this a long time and I know when this combination meets it can cause many problems this month.
You should also hang a flat Ba Gua mirror with a Chinese i-ching coin on the back for added protection this month especially if you have a main door here.
Sorry to harp on but please take extra security measures especially if you have a front, back or side door in this sector. Make sure doors and windows are fastened securely before leaving the house. Do not display valuable items on windowsills, which may attract the interests of passers-by.
It pays to be wise and avoid taking too many risks for there may be unscrupulous people working against you. There are indications of misunderstandings, pressure and business rivalries that could also lead to losses. Keep this area quiet and doors and windows kept closed this month.

During March, we have the monthly #2 located in the east along with the annual #4 and also the Three Killings so the main thing to try and do is keep this area quiet. I would introduce metal cures to weaken the monthly star which will also feed the water we are using for the annual cures to enhance the #4 star. Please avoid candles here this month as this would enhance the bad monthly star and weaken the good annual star. Too much metal here could destroy the annual #4 influence so I would recommend placing a salt cure and 6 coins in a row in the east during March.
If your bedroom, office, lounge, main door or other important room is located in this area this month and you are unable to move out please read this section carefully. The good news is you now know this is an inauspicious star and you can do much to dissipate its negative influences for the month, so do not panic at all.
Try and keep this area of your building as quiet as possible and avoid building work or renovations this month. If this part of your building is a bathroom, utility room, guest bedroom or other less important room do not panic, this is great news for you and no cures are needed this month.

South
Ken 8 White Zuo Fu is an earth star and a yang Trigram and is the most auspicious governing flying star of the lower era of the sexagenarian cycle of the flying stars (Xuan Kong) system which is period 8 (2004 – 2024). It affects the hands, fingers, pancreas and back. It also affects wealth career and luck and because it is timely in period 8 (2004 – 2024) it is considered the most auspicious flying star.
The south can be a bit of a tricky area in March as we have two auspicious stars which are in conflict with each other. We have the monthly #8-star fly-in along with the annual #1 star. The best way to treat this area in March is to introduce earth cures. If you have crystals, these will be well placed in the south this month as this will help to enhance the monthly star and also enhance the metal we are using to enhance the annual star. Earth can destroy water although, with the balance of elements here, this should not cause an issue.
Wealth, fame, romance, prestige and distinction can be expected especially if you have an office here, even if you do not you can still activate it. When activated correctly it brings good fortune and exciting times even with the conflict of elements. If you work with symbols, quartz crystals, crystal balls or hanging faceted crystals are very good for this area this month. The #8 star also governs relationships so a nice romance enhancer is a pair of Mandarin Ducks.
Whilst wealth is forecast this month for this area, beware of overworking as this can cause you health problems if you have a bedroom or office here. The additional work will bring a good income but be careful of your health; in particular, stress-related resulting in high blood pressure or kidney problems.

Kan 1 White Kan (Tang Lang) is a water element and a yang Trigram. In the physical body, it is the ear. The internal organ is the kidneys and it is also blood. It also affects wealth career and luck and because it is timely in period 8 (2004 – 2024) it is considered an auspicious flying star.
In March, we will have the monthly #1 water star fly into the southwest along with the annual #3 wood star and also Sui Po. We will need to enhance the monthly #1 with metal cures in March as this will help to weaken the annual #3; please only use small metal cures such as a brass Wu Lou or metal coloured traditional cures as introducing large metal cures or colours could aggravate the annual #3.
This area can also be very good for relationships this month and to enhance you should introduce some small metal elements that are round in shape, a traditional enhancer and cure is a brass wu lou or any object that is round in shape and made from a good quality metal like brass copper, steel.
If you activate this area of the home this month it can bring in new opportunities, gains in financial investments, academic achievements and also romance and relationships as peach blossom is very good here.
If this area is a bedroom, office, study lounge or other important room you should place a wu lou or other round metal objects which is auspicious.
If you disturb this area this month you may cause problems for the middle son and it could affect ears, kidneys or blood-related. Ch’ien 6 White The star of Heaven star (Wu Qu) is a compassionate money star and a yang Trigram and it affects the lungs, large intestines and head and can impact the Patriarch (eldest male) although on the whole it is considered an auspicious star.
We have the monthly #6 star fly into the west which also has the annual #8 wealth star located here and to enhance this area this month, we will need to introduce earth cures and colours to enhance both stars. If you have your annual cures in place, this is great as this will also enhance the monthly star. If you do not have any annual cures in place, please introduce crystals along with earth colours here.
The Ch’ien metal 6 is a conditional star and is auspicious in Period 8 (2004 – 2024). It governs wealth, leadership, success and ambition and is very good for politicians, leaders and anyone involved in the jewellery business.
Those with a main door, office/study in this area will benefit greatly this month.
Those who have main doors or offices in this area may enjoy excellent business and career success. However, whilst 6 White represents accomplishment, if the #6 monthly star is located in a bedroom it can cause problems with the throat, and/or legs and also problems with breathing especially for the eldest male although they are minor problem and nothing to worry about if you follow the advice here. If you do have a bedroom in this area place some blue, black, grey or charcoal cloth such as a rug or duvet covers to dissipate its energy.
Enhancers and cures if needed:
– If this is your bedroom, a shade of blue or black in your furnishing or décor may help with health. A blue painting (not a water scene) may also do.

Northwest
The 5 Yellow also called ‘Wu Huang or Lian Zhen’ in Chinese, is one of the bad monthly afflictions. It is an extremely unstable star. It has no gender and no trigram and is highly treacherous when disturbed. When disturbed, its malicious influence brings tragedy, sickness, lawsuits and major loss of wealth. Do be careful with it. Stillness together with metal cures can keep its negative influences at bay and you must avoid using fire energy like reds and candles in this area this month.
The northwest is a troublesome area this month as we have the monthly #5-star fly-in along with the annual #7 star. To weaken the influence in this area in March, I would recommend introducing metal cures as this will help to weaken the monthly #5 and also distribute the energy to enhance the water that we are using to weaken the annual star. The water cures we have in place for the year will also help to drain energy from the annual #5 in this case.
You should place a Wu Lou and six Chinese coins tied with red ribbon and also place more metal decorative objects (provided they are not menacing looking, round shape metal is good) to dissipate its negative influence.
You MUST NEVER disturb this area inside or out with lots of drilling or knocking activities. So please be careful if you have work to do and if you have a main door here you should also place a flat Ba Gua wealth protection mirror.
You must not place red objects, bright lights, candles or red coloured furnishing this month. Do not worry if you have these colours already just introduce colours white, silver, gold or copper in the way of a floor mat, cushions, throws, tablecloth or such. You can also use dark blue or black if you prefer.
If your bathroom, cloakroom, en-suite, guest room or large cupboard is located here, this is good for you, because these areas are not used much and therefore the negative power is not activated.

Sun 4 green Wen Qu romance and literacy star is a wood star. It affects the thighs, hip, buttock, bladder, liver and can cause colds and flu although on the whole it is considered an auspicious star. The Sun wood 4 is a conditional star and is auspicious in Period 8 (2004 – 2024).
It governs romance, career, travel, creative, academic and artistic talents, wisdom and intelligence as well as self-development. With the wood of the #4 star flying in for the month, we can expect a lovely energy from here as it creates a lovely peach blossom if activated correctly with the right enhancers.
We have the monthly #4 star fly into the centre along with the annual #6 star in March and will need to introduce wood cures and colours to feed the natural energy of the monthly star as we will have metal weakening wood this month and need to add wood energy back in here to benefit.
This cure and enhancer when used is a manifestation enhancer and it is good to place an image that represents everything you want to achieve in life, an example to some would be a picture of a beautiful home that you desire, a male or female that you admire, a car like a Ferrari or Mini, the number of children you would like, I think you are getting the picture by now, just create a dream board with all that you desire pinned to it or draw the image or you can even download some images from www.google.com this really is a very powerful way of manifesting your dreams and it really does work, remember to place your goal images in the centre this month.

Unlike textiles sourced from overseas, which travel on average 8,000 miles from the factory to your door, American Blossom Linens bedding is made only in the US using 100 per cent traceable organic cotton grown by family farmers. Their bedding is grown, processed, finished, and sewn in the US, drastically reducing its carbon footprint while supporting American workers all along the way, according to Thomaston.
Recently, the company surveyed their customers to ask what additional products they would like to see added to the American Blossom Linens line. The customers demanded for blankets. After searching all over, they chose to partner with a family owned mill in Monmouth Maine, which has been making blankets since 1850. The mill is weaving their new Herringbone blankets which are beautifully crafted with organic American cotton farmed without harmful pesticides, GMOs, or chemical defoliants. They are breathable but insulating, not too warm for hot summer nights, but cosy enough when the weather turns cool. The perfect weight, super soft Herringbone Blanket makes a cosy layer for the sofa or the bed, no matter the season, Thomaston said.
The queen, king, and throw sizes are available in two colours, American Harvest, a neutral beige shade and Patriot Blue, a rich blue shade. They are machine washable and dryable. Color American Harvest is made from a combination of natural West Texas organic cotton yarn and Foxfibre Coyote Brown heirloom cotton yarn. Foxfibre is organically grown in a rich colour which is integral to the fibre itself. Not a drop of artificial dyes is needed to make these blankets beautiful. Color Patriot Blue, made from West Texas organic cotton, is a combination of natural yarn and blue yarn. This beautiful rich blue yarn is created by a century-old mill in North Carolina using low impact dyes, Thomaston said in a media statement.
The popular sheet and duvet collection, which has been available for about two years, on the American Blossom Linens website, includes sheet sets in twin, full, queen, king, California king and split king, duvet sets in full/queen and king, pillowcase sets and a crib sheet. Vanessa Bryant set the record straight on Instagram Saturday (Feb. 27) after she discovered social media posts after her husband, Kobe Bryant, died that called him a “rapist.”
Bryant posted a screenshot of the old tweets from Evan Rachel Wood and producer Abigail Disney who said the basketball star’s legacy is tarnished because he was charged with sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman in 2003, a case which was ultimately dismissed.

Back in January 2020, Disney wrote, “I haven’t said anything about Kobe so far because I felt some time needed to pass before weighing in. But yes, it’s time for the sledgehammer to come out. The man was a rapist. Deal with it.”

“I’m broken hearted for Kobe’s family. He was a sports hero. He was also a rapist,” her post said.
Bryant wrote that the tweets had “just come to my attention.”
“Your false, insensitive, defamatory and slanderous tweet on 1/26/20 is vile and disturbing to say the least. Behavior like this is part of the reason why innocent black men go to jail for crimes they didn’t commit. An accusation doesn’t make someone guilty. You don’t know the facts of the case,” she responded.
Prosecutors dropped the case after the accuser was unwilling to testify, according to the New York Times. The case ended in a settlement, and the details were kept private.
Srinagar: The strategic Srinagar-Leh highway was reopened for traffic on Sunday after remaining closed for about two months. This is the earliest reopening of the high-mountain Zojila pass and also the minimum period of the closure of the road, officials said.
The highway was thrown open for traffic after remaining closed for 58 days due to snowfall, a Border Roads Organisation (BRO) spokesman said.
Vehicles carrying essential commodities were initially allowed to move towards Leh-Ladakh from Zojila pass, he said.
The spokesman said the pass was declared opened officially by DG of BRO Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhary.
The opening of the road was managed despite fresh snowfall in Zojila pass on Saturday, he added.
Snow clearance of Zojila pass is a big challenge owing to snow accumulation of 30-40 feet, threats of avalanches and inclement weather conditions, he said.
Due to the ongoing border dispute in eastern Ladakh, keeping Zojila pass open for an extended period was a strategic requirement, the spokesman said.
The BRO with grit and dedication to serve the nation, kept the axis trafficable till December 31 last year, he added.
The spokesman said the snow clearance was resumed on February 7 and a link-up with Drass was made on February 15.
“In recorded history, this has been the earliest opening of Zojila and also the minimum period of the closure of this axis,” he said.
This historic feat has been possible by the dedicated team of Project Beacon and Vijayak of the BRO, he added.
