Anybody found violating quarantine rules, of social distancing norms or not wearing mask in public of work place or spitting should be penalised, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal directed officials on Saturday. “A fine of Rs 500 for the first offence and a fine of Rs 1,000 for the repeat offence, if any person is found violating these norms,” said a statement from L-G office.
“In case any person fails to pay the penalty on the spot, action under Section 188 IPC shall be taken against offender by the authorised police officer on receipt of a complaint from any authorised officer or on his own,” it said.
A spokesperson from the LG office said on Saturday that the L-G had approved regulations called the Delhi Epidemic Diseases, (Management of COVID-19) Regulations, 2020 and empowered Secretary (Health & FW), Director General Health Services, District Magistrates, zonal DCs of MCDs and the officers of the rank of Sub Inspector and above of Delhi Police to impose a fine of Rs. 500 for the first offence and a fine of Rs. 1000/- for the repeat offence, if any person is found violating norms for “Observation of quarantine rules, maintaining of social distancing, wearing of face mask/cover in all public places /workplaces. prohibition of spitting in public places, prohibition on consumption of paan, gutka, tobacco etc in public places.”
