Harry Potter writer JK Rowling draws massive backlash over perceived anti-trans tweets

[ad_1]

Harry Potter author JK Rowling has found herself in a world of trouble on Twitter after a innocuous well-meaning tweet of her was taken in the wrong and rubbed the trans community and its advocates the wrong way. Retweeting on an opinion piece, Rowling had written: “‘People who menstruate.’ I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud? Opinion: Creating a more equal post-COVID-19 world for people who menstruate.” Check out her tweet below: Also Read - Alia Bhatt is a typical Harry Potter fan in THIS special lockdown initiative with Hollywood star Alec Baldwin — watch video

JK Rowling's tweet soon draw flak from several in the transgender community and those who support LGBTQ rights as they perceived her tweet to be trans-phobic since transgenders, non-binary people and gender-nonconforming individuals, too, can menstruate. However, Rowling soon retorted to these comments by questioning why it's to acknowledge the reality of one’s biological sense. Also Read - Good News! “If sex isn’t real, there’s no same-sex attraction. If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives. It isn’t hate to speak the truth,” the ace writer, adding, “The idea that women like me, who’ve been empathetic to trans people for decades, feeling kinship because they’re vulnerable in the same way as women — ie, to male violence – ‘hate’ trans people because they think sex is real and has lived consequences — is a nonsense.” Also Read - Harry Potter writer JK Rowling's noble gesture for COVID-19 relief on the 22nd anniversary of Battle of Hogwarts will win your heart

The Harry Potter later commented how she's stand by trans people through thick and thin, but that doesn't mean she'd disavow her female existence, which she's known since birth.

Wow! Just about anything is blown out of proportion these day because people look to be waiting for an opportunity to pounce and create a mountain out of a molehill, right?
