Besides the prevalent coronavirus pandemic, India is dealing with one tragedy after another. One incident that has shocked Indians is the custodial deaths in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu. The cops had arrested the father-son duo of Jayaraj, 58 and Fenix, 31 for keeping their mobile shop open in the lockdown. It seems they had an argument. This happened on June 19. They died on June 22 and 23 due to injuries. News came out that they were brutalized in police custody. Their friends have said that they were sodomized by the cops, which led to profuse bleeding. Indians have taken to social media to thoroughly condemn the incident. Wide protests have happened in Tuticorin as well.
Filmmaker Hari who became famous after his 2003 cop action film, Saamy with Chiyaan Vikram has condemned the incident. He has written that he regrets making five movies that glorify the police force. In a letter, Hari has written that no person from Tamil Nadu should undergo what happened to Jayaraj and Fenix in Tuticorin. As per The News Minute, he wrote, "The Sathankulam incident should not happen to anyone else in Tamil Nadu. The only way for that is to punish all those involved with the highest sentence. The violation by some in the police force has brought dishonour upon the entire force. I am deeply saddened today for having made five films glorifying the police." Suriya who is the star of his Singam films has also condemned the incident to the hilt.

So far, Hari has made five films on cops and all of them had encounter sequences and quite a bit of police violence. He mentions the Saamy films, and the Singam series. The latter is a hugely popular one and has been made in other languages as well. Ajay Devgn is Singham in the Hindi remakes of the movies. It seems the case will be soon handed over to the CBI.
