Last week the industry got another blow with the shocking news of the demise of Wajid Khan, one of the composers of the famous duo, Sajid-Wajid. The composer’s sudden death shocked everyone and soon there were several reports in the media, citing the cause of his death to be kidney failure while some suggested that he was diagnosed with the ongoing fatal virus, COVID-19. However today on an official Instagram account of the music directors, the family has issued a public statement to clear all rumours.
In the statement, it’s clearly stated that Wajid Khan suffered cardiac arrest and lost his life. In this statement they have even thanked the staff and members of Surana Sethia hospital where he took his last breath. Here’s what it said, “Our dearest Wajid passed away at the age of 47 due to a cardiac arrest on 1st of June at 00:30 am in Surana Sethia hospital. He had a successful kidney transplant last year and he was undergoing treatment for a throat infection. We would like to express our gratitude to Or Prince Surana who is family and has taken care of Wajid just like a brother would, Or Prashant Kewle, Or Kirti Sabnis, Or Nikhil Jain, Or Rupesh Naik, Or Dipen Deals, Or Aseem Thamba and the entire hospital staff who had been treating Wajid and taking care of him beyond the call of duty and had left no stone unturned for his treatment. We thank each of you for your selfless gestures from the bottom of our hearts. Wajid will stay in our hearts forever. -Sajid & family.”
Sajid-Wajid have given some great music to the Hindi cinema and even bagged the Filmfare Award for Best Music, for their outstanding composition in Dabangg (2010). Their other blockbuster compositions are Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Wanted, Partner, Rowdy Rathore, Main Tera Hero and many more.
