Shop-owners cut down biz timings in Nalgonda

[ad_1]

Nalgonda: Traders and merchants have imposed self-restrictions on the business hours in several mandals and towns in erstwhile Nalgonda district in view of the spurt in coronavirus cases.

Nalgonda Merchants Association has resolved to keep shops open from 6 am to 2 pm only and decided to impose Rs 2,000 penalty on violators.

Kirana and stationery shops and mobile recharge centres are shutting down by 2 pm in Nalgonda. But, multi-brand super markets, sweet shops, milk centres and hotels, which do not come under their purview, will be open till 9 pm in the town. Traders in vegetable market at Prakasham Bazar in the town also decided to keep their shops open till 5 pm only. Shops in Nehru Ganj, the wholesale market in Nalgonda, are also closing down at 2 pm.

Speaking to Telangana Today, president of Kirana Merchants Association Tadakamalla Venkateshwarlu said Nehru Ganj, the hub for 56 wholesale and retail shops, generally witnesses heavy rush towards the evenings. “Keeping this in mind, we had decided to close all shops at 2 pm, which will minimise movement of people in the area in the evenings,” he said.

The Druggists and Chemists Association also decided to keep medical shops open only till 7 pm and some shops are working on alternate days. However, roadside eateries like fast food centres and chat bhandars that usually operate in the evenings, are seeing very thin patronage of customers. Muneer, owner of a roadside fast food centre at clock tower centre, said his business was down by 50 per cent after lockdown. “People are avoiding outside food as a safety measure,” he said.

Shops in Chandur, Nampally, Haliya, Nakrekal, Chityal, Choutuppal, Devarakonda, Munagala and Kodad are also closing down at 2 pm. In Suryapet, shops and other businesses have cut down their timings to 6 pm.
