Microsoft Surface Pro 6
We picked the sixth generation Microsoft Surface Pro as the best 2-in-1 to buy when it launched last October, and while the newer Pro 7 and Pro X are a bit fresher, the Surface Pro 6 is still a fantastic device in 2020. Since the Microsoft Surface Pro 6 is a little over a year old, it’s hardly what you would call dated: it includes eighth generation Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, 8 or 16 GB of RAM, and 128 GB to 1 TB of solid state storage. The 12.3-inch PixelSense touchscreens are absolutely superb, and for a tablet-like 2-in-1 device, the Surface Pro 6 has great build quality for everyday use without worry. Microsoft Surface Pro 7
This fall, the updated seventh iteration of the Microsoft Surface Pro was released along with the innovative Surface Pro X. For this update, Microsoft continued its conservative approach and decided not to tinker with a formula for success too much. It was a good strategy: the Microsoft Surface Pro 7 has everything we love about the Pro 6, with some subtle enhancements like a 9th generation Ice Lake Intel Core CPU and the welcome addition of a high-speed USB-C port.
Along with those relatively small (but very nice) upgrades, the Microsoft Surface Pro 7 still offers that nice 3: 2 PixelSense touchscreen and great build quality. Plus, it works great with a Type Cover Keyboard which can double the performance as a 2-inch version – 1 ultrabook laptop. One of our few problems is that it still doesn’t come with that keyboard cover, but Surface Pro deals and ongoing New Years sales should help mitigate that.
Microsoft Surface Pro X.
Microsoft introduced two new Surface devices this year and launched the brand new Surface Pro X along with the Surface Pro 7 update in late October and early November. The Pro 7 was just a small update of the Mainline Surface Pro series, but the Microsoft Surface Pro X delivered the long-awaited facelift that we’ve been waiting for: Above all, Microsoft has finally shortened the chunky frames around the display, which was one of ours few persistent complaints with the regular Surface Pro models (including the latest Pro 7).
It’s not quite as fast as the Surface Pro 7 in terms of specs, but the biggest downside here is that the Microsoft Surface Pro X is thinner and lighter. In fact, it’s the slimmest surface at just 0.2 inches, and those slimmer bezels allow for more screen space with a larger 13-inch 1920S PixelSense touchscreen (for an additional 0.7 inches). The Surface Pro X is the complete package, but it’s also the most expensive new member of the Surface family. Therefore, savvy buyers should look for the numerous offers at seasonal sales events.
Microsoft Surface Pro (5th generation)
This Surface Pro is the fifth generation of Microsoft’s 2-in-1 and the oldest one that you can still easily find new, although it doesn’t officially carry a numbered moniker “Surface Pro 5”. Our review team said the fifth generation Microsoft Surface Pro was the best 2-in-1 available at the time of its release in 2017 (since then, of course, the newer models have done it), but if you want, whatever The cheapest Surface Pro to buy new in 2020 is a great, high-quality choice.
Like the newer Pro devices, the Microsoft Surface Pro 2017 also has a fantastic 12.3-inch touchscreen display, a robust build quality and a generous battery life for the whole day. It syncs wonderfully with the Type Cover keyboard too, although you still have to purchase this add-on separately. While the Surface Pro 6 is still our first choice for someone looking for an older model, the fifth generation Surface Pro is well worth it for buyers on a tight budget due to the offerings for “new old stock” units.
Microsoft Surface Go
If we’ve whetted your appetite for these 2-in-1 models, but for various reasons you don’t want to spend a lot of money on one of the Surface Pro models, the Microsoft Surface Go is definitely worth a look. The 10-inch Surface Go is a lower-cost alternative to the high-end Surface Pro range. It offers a smaller display, simpler hardware, and Windows 10S (a reduced version of the Windows 10 operating system). We’re not going to argue that it’s the best finish money can buy – it’s not – but for around $ 400, it’s very, very hard to look this cheap gift horse in the mouth.
The Surface Go is a great option for anyone looking for something smaller than a Surface Pro, or for buyers looking for something affordable (be it as a secondary 2-in-1 device for travel or as a device for simply surfing and streaming the internet ). and the Microsoft Surface deals above make it even cuter. Microsoft recently released the second generation Surface Go. Our review team felt it was a little overpriced right now. However, it’s another option to consider if you want hardware upgrades and can find a good deal.
