How to Write Short Stories like a Pro by Jyoti Arora – DiaryOfAnInsaneWriter

[ad_1]

With attention spans getting shorter, readers prefer short story formats to keep them entertained. New-age writers are moving away from writing full-fledged novels and concentrating on creating short stories to keep their readers satiated. Writing a short story differs greatly from writing a novel.

Jyoti Arora’s book, Writer’s Toolkit – How to write short stories like a Pro is a perfect ready reckoner for any author who wishes to ace the art of telling short stories.

‘How to Write Short Stories like a Pro’ is a complete writing course in a concise form. It does not just deliver writing lessons — it makes you write. If you follow its practice suggestions, you’ll have a beautiful short story ready before you finish reading the book.

Must read for all writers: DiaryOfAnInsaneWriter

Conflict creates the story. Characters only play their part. Words only narrate the story. Conflict creates it and drives it towards the end.

About the book:

The book has been specifically written for writers who wish to plunge into short story writing. The author has thus written the book, keeping the target audience in mind. Wonderfully crafted chapters with lucid language that take the reader right from ideation to understanding the target audience to ultimately writing the story, this book has it all.

Whether you are writing fiction or non-fiction, long-form or short-form, your writing must have these 5 Cs: Correctness, Conciseness, Clarity, Coherence, Completeness.

What I loved about the book:

At the end of each chapter, the author gives a task for the reader to practice. This is the best part of the book, it allows the reader to put the learning into action. The book deals with the smaller nuances of ideating the title and also talks about writing for a particular audience. The best part is that she has taken the pains to explain all the tips without getting preachy.

This is a book written from a peer to a peer. Jyoti Arora doesn’t sit on a high horse. Instead, she explains the tips in an easy-to-understand manner.

My book, Trapped In Heaven and other stories was globally released by Amazon in July 2020. and the book has been garnering rave reviews. I believed I knew it all till I read Jyoti Arora’s book.

Downside of the book:

There is no downside to the content of the book. However, for the sake of pointing out, one can notice a few flaws. With 73 pages and no index, it makes it difficult for a reader to jump to sections directly. The chapters should be numbered so that the reader can track progress.

DiaryOfAnInsaneWriter Verdict: 4/5

Every writer must read this book – it’s an abundant source of knowledge and learning.
