President-elect Joseph Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.
America finally got the chance to exhale and celebrate the election of a new president. On Saturday, the news finally came that Biden had enough votes to claim victory in Pennsylvania to achieve the more than 270 electoral votes needed to win.
Biden will become the 46th President of the United States.
“I am honored and humbled by the trust the American people have placed in me and in Vice President-elect Harris,” he said in a statement. “In the face of unprecedented obstacles, a record number of Americans voted. Proving once again, that democracy beats deep in the heart of America.”
President Trump released a statement saying that Biden’s victory is a “false claim”, and that the race is “far from over.”
Biden is also projected to win Arizona, Nevada, and Georgia, which will add to his electoral vote count.
Biden will become the oldest president in U.S. history at 77, and his running mate, Senator Kamala Harris will be the first Black and Indian-American woman to serve as vice president.
