‘The Crown’ – The intricate story of the British monarchy

Since the time Peter Morgan’s historical show ‘The Crown’ first arrived on Netflix, it has had its audiences entranced. It follows the life of Queen Elizabeth II and begins from the point in time she got married to Prince Philip in 1947. ‘The Crown’ makes the viewing experience enthralling and gives you a more profound conception of the events leading to Britain’s eminence under the rule of the Queen. This Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy award-winning series has even been designated “television’s best drama” by The Telegraph. This is without a doubt what one alludes to as “TV gold”.

Seasons 4: What we have seen yet

The latest season focuses on the complicated relationship shared between Diana, Charles, and Camilla. Emma Corrin plays Princess Diana; Josh O’Connor plays Prince Charles, and Camilla is portrayed by Emerald Fennell. The season focuses on how Charles decided to marry Diana only because it was the right thing to do for the good of the country and his family.

Season 5: Release update!

It is being said that season 5 will commence shooting in June 2021 and will premiere on Netflix only by the end of 2022. Peter Morgan has revealed in an interview that this delay in production has nothing to do with COVID-19. He said,

“It’s a normal schedule for us because what happens is, as you’ve noticed, we filmed The Crown in two-season chunks. And there was a gap year in there in which I frantically do a draft of all the scripts, and then I rewrite the scripts and polish the scripts after that — but at least we have a roadmap of where we’re going for the two seasons. And I said that there was no way that I could possibly do that and be showrunning the seasons if they were in production. You do need a gap year to get ahead with the writing”.

The upcoming season is all set to tell the story of Charles and Diana’s divorce in 1996, one year before Diana’s fatal car accident. It may potentially also include Camilla and Charles’ marriage 9 years later. Season 5 will be the second last one as the series will finally conclude with its sixth instalment, a decision made by its makers to do complete justice to the story.

Fans have to now wait for almost 2 years to watch the upcoming season!
