Supreme Court: Order can be given to lay underground wire to save Son Chiraiya bird

The Supreme Court has expressed concern over the death of the endangered Son Chiraiya bird. The court said on Monday that it could issue orders for underground electric low tension wires and installation of bird diverters at some places in Rajasthan and Gujarat to protect the bird.

A bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde also asked the Union Ministry of Power to know their stand in the matter that it is not possible to underground high tension wires and this can be done in relation to low tension wires.

Attorney General KK Venugopal told the bench that till now it was not possible to underground high tension wires but low tension wires could be made underground. Son Chiraiya is also known as The Great Indian Bustard, Bastard, and Godavan.
