Nationwide Children’s Hospital in the US has announced a five-year, $3.3bn commitment which is aimed at transforming health outcomes for children locally and worldwide.

A combination of philanthropy, operations, and debt funding will finance the plan.

Primary investments will be made in integrated clinical care and research to make sure children receive advanced therapies for their conditions.

The hospital also plans to add clinical and research faculty and launch a new fetal medicine programme for infants. Several new health care and research facilities will also be constructed.

Additionally, an inpatient hospital tower is planned to be built which will include a new orthopedics and surgery centre, new research facilities.

Nationwide Children’s Hospital Board of Directors chair Alex Fischer said: “Nationwide Children’s has established itself as an international leader in pediatric care and research, and this plan is particularly aspirational because it enables us to have an even greater impact on the wellbeing of children and families.”

Through its Stand Against Racism and Stand for Health Equity plan, the hospital is addressing health equity with the launch of new strategies to break down barriers to care for children as well as families in underserved populations.

Furthermore, the hospital will invest in its accountable care organisation, Partners For Kids, which supports the quality care for almost all children who are served by Medicaid in more than half of the counties in Ohio.

Nationwide Children’s will also invest in Pediatric Vital Signs, an initiative to measure the wellbeing of all children in its community across eight metrics.

Nationwide Children’s Hospital CEO Tim Robinson said: “Through this plan our team continues to put children at the center of everything we do, always grounded in our mission to ensure all children have access to the finest care regardless of ability to pay.”
