Sage is a super picky plant and hates to get its leaves wet or touched. Bottom watering is the best way to go with it. And then wait until you see the water start to moisten the surface soil. Then put it near light and pretend to neglect it. Sage is a plant that thrives off some neglect. But it does hate to be messed with or have water or soil get on its leaves...
